L’S KOLO (“KOKO”)

Koko is a big (over 80 pounds) strikingly handsome gentleman who, in 138 races, crossed the finish line “in the money” 54% of the time.  Some of those winning races were major ones and earned him a total of 6.0 performance points. But his major attribute is his happy, goofy, outgoing personality that we find is so typical of “cowdogs”.

BOC’S SAY U DO (“SAYSAY”)

Saysay is still very puppy-like — full of energy and personality.  She is a happy outgoing sweetie who greets everyone with enthusiasm. She will jump up and give kisses if allowed, and she loves to get up on the furniture.  If you are looking for an active fun companion who is also quite beautiful, then this is your gal.

M’S FREEWILL (“WILL”)

At 71 pounds, Will is not a very large male. However, he is quite photogenic and very sweet.  Despite actively completing 168 races with a 56% success rate, he is quiet and well mannered, walks well on a leash, loves to be petted, and will climb up into your lap to cuddle if given the opportunity.

RS LONELY WIDOW (“WIDOW”)

Widow is a lovely petite pup who never set foot on a racetrack. She has a distinctive white spot on her nose and still bears some of her fuzzy puppy fur. She is a very sweet and personable girl who eagerly seeks attention from all visitors.  She arrived here with her brother RS NO REGRETS (already adopted).

BOC’S ON FIRE (“FIRE”)

While white and black males are not all that uncommon, it’s not often we see that coloring in a female.  Fire is a good-sized girl (67 pounds) who started out as a promising racer and was “in the money” 60% of the time. However, after just a few dozen races, she seemed to lose interest in the sport, finishing last in her final 5 races. Today she could be named “Miss Congeniality”.  She’s an eager, outgoing young lady who’ll waste no time climbing up on the couch and into your lap.

WICKEDATTRACTION (“DROGO”)

Drogo is a tall rangy guy whose career was ended when he sustained an injury in a schooling race.  Now, following excellent treatment, he is in the final stages of a full recovery and looking for a forever home.  He is a well-behaved boy, much like his twin brother PAW PATROL who was an AAGA kennel favorite before recently being adopted.

RS NO REGRETS (“REGRET”)

This young fellow’s professional career consists of just one schooling race in which he came in 7th.  Although obviously not racing material, he is a likeable pup who enjoys hanging out with visitors. He can be quickly identified by his cute floppy right ear and the two patches of black fur on his shoulders – very unusual for a fawn Greyhound.  In actuality, he is not quite as light as he appears in his pictures and out of the bright sun . He arrived here with his sister RS LONELY WIDOW, also available for adoption.

L’S KWIK SHOT (“QUICKIE”)

We don’t see Quickie’s “red ‘n white” coloring very often, so he’s likely to stand out in a group of Greyhounds. He is quite strong and could use more leash-training, but he is an appealing fellow and certainly handsome.  In his 131 runs at over 5 different racetracks, he brought home a purse 54% of the time and earned 2.0 performance points.  In his last race in June, he was reported as “a constant threat” and finished 2nd.  It kinda makes you wonder why he was retired shortly thereafter.

BOC’S EDITH (“EDITH”)

Edith is an active friendly girl who craves attention and likes to give kisses.  At 64 pounds, she is a decent-sized female who was able to hold her own competing against the boys. She managed to earn a couple performance points and was “in the money” 57% of the time in over 100 races.  She loves squeaky toys.

LEE TAYLOR (“ROXIE”)

Roxie is a very sweet and friendly but calm pup with a pretty brindle face. Participating in just 3 schooling races,  she ended up last in the 1st of those runs and then just ran off the course in the 2nd and 3rd ones. Obviously, she had no desire to be a racer, preferring instead to become a lovely couch potato.

DASHEN RAIN (“SAM”)

Although a small-sized boy — just 64 pounds — Sam was a dedicated racer, completing 216 races before reaching the maximum retirement age of 5. He even collected some performance points along the way.  He is an outgoing and active fellow with perky ears that he almost always holds erect.

C VILLE KRISTA (“KRISTA”)

This lovely pup with a classic Greyhound expression and mascara’d eyes is very friendly and a generous kisser.  Her resume consists of just 4 schooling races, the last one of which she didn’t even bother to finish.  Obviously not racing material, she is retired at the ripe old age of 2.

FLYING FACEPAINT (“FACEPAINT”)

Facepaint was aptly named, as he certainly did do some “flying”.  Boasting a very impressive pedigree, he raced to the full retirement age of 5, bringing home a check 62% of the time and earning 3.0 performance points in his 159 career races. He is an outgoing and friendly big boy with a handsomely marked face.

MO’S DEERE (“LYDIA”)

Lydia is a very friendly girl — a “love bug” who likes to give kisses. She’s a pretty gal, quite petite with a big white chest.  She was in a home in Florida for two years but was returned to the track when it was felt she did not get along well with one of the home’s other 4 Greyhounds.  Now she’s come to Atlanta for a second chance at a forever home.

PAT C WUUSUP (“WUUSUP”)

Wuusup is a very handsome gentleman with big dark expressive eyes. Although he was never much of a racer, he’s an imposing fellow  — racing weight 80# — who is outgoing and seeks attention from visitors. He walks well on a leash and responds to his name with excited tail wagging.

C VILLE EISNER (“EISNER”)

Eisner is a little fellow — just 63 pounds — but he’s still also quite young.  He and his identical brother C VILLE EAGLE arrived together.  From what we can determine, he ran just 3 schooling races at Jacksonville with less than promising results.  Nevertheless, he is a friendly and affectionate pup.

C VILLE EAGLE (“EAGLE”)

This cute petite young boy and his twin brother C VILLE EISNER (who arrived with him) are like matching bookends.  We have to keep different colored collars on them to tell them apart.  Eagle is a very happy and outgoing guy who it appears never set foot on a professional racetrack.

TAULEY PERRETTE (“FREYA”)

Freya is a very friendly girl with a beautiful face and the prettiest big round eyes.  Although she is classified as a “red fawn”, her coat definitely has that silvery cast that means she really is closer to a (much rarer) “blue fawn”. Her grandpa is Argentinian. Freya never really learned the art of keeping out of trouble on the track, often getting run over and knocked down by “the big boys”. Thus, she was retired before she was 3 years old. Now just past 4 years of age, she was recently returned to us after 1½ years in a loving home because she played “too rough” with the family’s Italian Greyhound.

C VILLE MAVERICK (“MAVERICK”)

Maverick is a good-sized handsome guy who had a fairly successful racing career, ending with an “in the money” rate of 51% over a span of 92 races. He is confident, outgoing and likes to be near people.

TRAVEL WITH YOUR PET

Greyhounds are generally great traveling companions. If you are planning on taking your special hound on a trip, here are some tips to make sure you have thought of everything to make the experience as smooth and pleasant as possible:

  • Never leave your pet unattended in a car, even with the windows cracked. If it’s 85 degrees outside, the temperature inside a car can rocket to 120 degrees in a matter of minutes.
  • Take along your pet’s medical records: vaccine history, including rabies certificate; records of latest exam, any chronic illness and/or allergies. Speaking of vaccines, this is an important part of owning pets. Their health should be a priority when you decide to take in pets. With this being said, treatments like fel-o-vax don’t exist for no reason. If you find out that there is a way to prevent your pet from getting a disease, wouldn’t you want to find out more?
  • If your pet is on medication, e.g. CBD for Pets, be sure you pack it. To be on the safe side, take extra and bring the original prescription bottles.
  • Pack a first aid kit for your pet: tweezers to remove ticks, bandaging material for any cuts, hydrogen peroxide, etc. Click here for a list of items to include in your pet first aid kit.
  • Include a printed photo of your dog. This could be a vital item should he/she get out and/or away from you.
  • Identify the nearest animal emergency hospital to where you are staying and have the phone number handy.
  • Make sure your pet’s heartworm and flea prevention medications are current.
  • Don’t feed a large meal before leaving; simply allow periodic snacking.
  • Carry collapsible bowls for food and water.
  • Make sure that dog tags are clearly visible because people are more likely to catch pets if they can return them to the owner. If your pet is microchipped, make sure that the registration information is up to date.
  • If your pet has implants (e.g. plates or screws from orthopedic surgery), and he or she will be flying, you should bring a note from your veterinarian.
  • If your dog is one of the 17 percent who get sick when traveling, ask your veterinarian about an anti-vomiting medication called Cerenia. Dogs get motion sickness either because they are anxious while traveling or because their balance is affected by movement. You may wish to play music for anxious dogs as well as administer the Cerenia. In either case, Cerenia blocks vomiting signals, which prevents dogs from getting sick. If they give you a prescription, you can easily get it through your local pharmacy or via an online if you live in that area.
  • Pack your Grey’s kennel muzzle. This can come in handy if he/she will be being introduced to unfamiliar cats or dogs at your destination.

And, if you decide that you can’t take your furry family member with you, remember that AAGA offers Greyhound-exclusive boarding services.
