OSHKOSH JESS (“JESS”)

Known at both the track and AAGA as “the girl with the cutest ears”, Jess first came to us in early 2018 as a perky sweet young girl who was just not cut out to be a racer. In her 17 career races she put forth very little effort, and, since you can’t make a Greyhound run who really isn’t all that interested in running, she was retired early.   Now, after having been in a home for the last 1½ years, Jess was recently returned to AAGA by her adopters who claimed that their work schedules did not leave them enough time for her. So, still a sweet and friendly girl, Jess is now looking for her second chance at a forever home.

LEE GENNARO (“G”)

Known as “G”, this moderately-sized young boy (69 pounds) can boast of a lot of big names in his pedigree.  When he raced, he was always determined to try for the rail, and as a result would frequently get hit, bumped, and collided with. Because of this racing trait that he wouldn’t change, it was decided to retire him at a young age before he became injured. “G” is a bit shy with strangers but warms up quickly when people become known to him.

CBJ QUIBBLE (“QUIBBLE”)

Quibble is the product of a number of racing greats.  She successfully ran 116 races (“in the money” in half of them) when a minor sprain put her into retirement. Back in prime condition, Quibble is a tall slim 67-pounder  who is friendly and outgoing.

TR’S TUSCALOOSA (“TUSCALOOSA”)

This pretty young girl was just not in a mood to have her picture taken when she arrived.  Although still a bit cautious about shiny floors, she nevertheless is a very playful and endearing pup who immediately attracts the attention of every visitor to AAGA.

GS VICTOR (“VICTOR”)

Victor first came to AAGA in 2012 as a 2¾ year-old retired racer. A handsome happy enthusiastic fellow, he was quickly adopted.  Now, 7 years later, just returned to us by his owner due to her health issues, we find Victor to have the same friendly and outgoing personality he originally left AAGA with. Victor will be 10 years old in September. Could you be the one to present this deserving well-behaved senior with a great birthday gift – a second chance at a forever home?

GB’S HOLY HOLY (“HOLLY”)

Holly managed to compete at a level that earned her 2.0 performance points in her 81 career races.  In spite of her quiet demeanor, she was plucky and determined on the track, completing her races regardless of what “trouble” she experienced running with the big boys. A St. Patrick’s Day birthday gal, Holly is a friendly and well-behaved gal whose tail never stops wagging. Her current “job” is as an AAGA visitor greeter.

LALUN (“LALUN”)

Lalun ran only 3 professional races at the Gulf track when her trainer felt she wasn’t going to develop the skills to be a successful racer and retired her while still a pup.  Lalun is a beautiful young lady who is friendly and confident.

JEDI MOTHERSISTA (“SISTA”)

Sista is a good-sized gal (62#) with Irish lineage.  She made 89 professional turns around the track with moderate success before she was retired.  Sista gets excited when meeting people and she loves to play. The sofa is definitely her favorite spot, and, if she finds a blanket up there, she will enthusiastically bite it, paw it, rearrange it, and ultimately roll around on it as if it were her newest toy.

SUPER C MCQUEEN (“MCQUEEN”)

After just 33 races, it was determined that this pup would be better suited as a home companion than a racer.  So, here she is, retired at age 2.  Exceptionally sweet and affectionate, McQueen is very playful and fond of tummy rubs. However, keep your eye on her; she loves to pick up and collect everything!

YOLO SAUVE (“RICO”)

An ex-racer from the Derby Lane track originally adopted out in Florida, Rico was recently brought to AAGA when his owner passed away and the caregiver couldn’t keep him (“didn’t have a fenced yard plus the dog did not like small children”).  He is a handsome, quiet, well-behaved lad who loves to be petted.

DUTCH RANGER (“RANGER”)

Except for 2 brindle ears, a brindle patch over his left eye, and a spot of brindle on his tail, this handsome fellow is totally white.  Ranger’s 126 races put him “in the money” 56% of the time and earned him 4.0 performance points. He is very friendly and smiles a lot.

PATA C KISKA (“KISKA”)

Despite a father trained in Ireland and an All-American grandfather, Kiska’s career of 11 races was lackluster.  He just didn’t have the drive to be a racer and, thus, was retired early.  He is a good-looking friendly guy who appears to listen to you intently by cocking his head sideways when you talk to him.

FURY KAPCORI (“CORI”)

You have to look real hard to find even a spot of white on this petite (56#) shiny black gal who looks like an AKC show Greyhound.  But don’t be misled.  Boasting an outstanding pedigree, she was a pretty formidable racer herself, earning a paycheck 51% of the time while chalking up 2.0 performance points over a 160-race career.  She is very friendly and outgoing while making sure that she is given a spot up on the couch.

CBJ SASSAFRAS (“DONUT”)

Donut is a special boy who needs some special care.  A friendly small-sized guy, he originally came to AAGA in May of 2018 following a very successful racing career:  172 races “in the money” 60% of the time plus 7.0 performance points. Following adoption he developed the auto immune disorder known as SLO which causes the dog to spontaneously lose his toenails. As a result of the pain, Donut became quite irritable, unmanageable, and even aggressive until, finally, his adopters tearfully returned him to AAGA. Now under proper treatment, Donut has experienced remarkable improvement, and his toenails are beginning to re-grow. Whether the condition will ultimately resolve itself, or if it will require that he be maintained on medication for the rest of his life, is unknown at this point.  But at least he is now returning to his former happy, friendly self and can look forward to a good quality of life.

DDM’S TWISTER (“TWISTER”)

Twister ran the last of her 39 races just a couple days before arriving at AAGA. A good-sized young lady (62#), Twister is very sweet but a bit timid with strangers and the most sensitive of our current adoptables.   If we place a fluffy blanket on the floor, Twister will methodically drag it up onto the couch and then carefully arrange it to suit her exact purposes.

LK’S DAILY HABIT (“CARL”)

When Carl first came to AAGA, he was what is often referred to as a “spook”. He was very fearful and skitzy and appeared very leery of men.  He had previously been in a home in Florida for 3 years and was sent up to us when his owner lost his job and moved in with his parents. Although Carl had supposedly lived with small children, we felt that he should not be rehomed to a family with children based on his extreme shyness, and his subsequent adopter was so advised. After 4½ years in that second home Carl was returned to us because the owner could not trust him with her grandchildren, he reacted negatively to being handled, he wouldn’t allow his feet to be touched, and the dog sitter was afraid of him.  His vet actually recommended that he be euthanized. We talked the owner into returning him to us. Carl showed up back at AAGA extremely anxious with no history of shots or preventative heartworm medication.  In just 2 days in our environment his anxiety had markedly decreased. We placed him on trial with a veterinarian who had been requesting we find her a senior Greyhound.  Through her patience, professional therapy and tender care, Carl is transforming into a calm, affectionate, and easily manageable companion. And, yes, she has now adopted him and given him a permanent forever home.

DUTCH LUCINDA (“LUCINDA”)

Why was Lucinda retired before she even reached 2 years old?  Well, Lucinda was guilty of “interference”.  This is when a Greyhound doesn’t just concentrate on running the race but instead distracts the other racers, impeding their performance.  This is an absolute “no-no” on the track.  So, despite her potential (the product of an “All American” father and an Irish grandfather), Lucinda was sent packing by her trainer to AAGA after just 3 races.  While she is very sweet, we see evidence of her “interference”; she likes to roughhouse with and bark at the other Greyhounds.  No doubt she will mellow out as she ages.

WW’S VICE VERSA (“VICE”)

This classically handsome fellow with pretty ears and lovely dark expressive mascara’d eyes was recently returned to AAGA after 2½ years of adoption because the owner reported that  “he doesn’t want to interact with our 5-year-old…just walks away”.  Since he’s a super personable boy, we feel Vice should have no difficulty finding his second chance at a forever home…one without small children.
