TB’S MONSTAR (“MONSTAR”)

Monstar raced around the Birmingham and Wheeling Downs tracks 97 times, finishing “in the money” 62% of the time and earning 4.0 performance points in the process.  Monstar  is NOT a “monster”.  In fact, he’s not all that big – just 70 pounds.  And he’s a friendly, outgoing fellow.

ROCK A BY DAKOTA (“DAKOTA”)

They don’t come much handsomer than this pup. Dakota won’t be 2 years old until March 4th.  Despite a very powerful pedigree, Dakota was deemed not racing material after just 26 races. He is friendly, outgoing, curious, and a leaner.  He also sits.

HENUHSEE (“HENUHSEE”)

Yep, that’s how they spelled his name! Henuhsee has such a sweet face. He raced at Sanford-Orlando and Palm Beach with moderate success and came to us with a note on his records stating that he was “friendly, loving, very affectionate”.  It is very unusual for the track to provide any comments as to a Greyhound’s personality; they leave that for us to find out.  But they were certainly right.  He also seems to be drawn to children. He does, however, show too much attention to the kitties and small dogs.

WW’S HEY DAY (“HEY DAY”)

This beautiful deep red girl has the happiest face.  She is always smiling, wagging her tail, and making a playtoy out of anything she can pick up and throw around. Her dad was a 2011 All American Greyhound. Her mom was an exceptional racer, as well. Hey Day completed 72 races at the Birmingham and Sanford-Orlando tracks, ending her career on January 29th. We found that she likes to sit outside in the yard and look out over the woods.

ARKANS RYDER (“RYDER”)

Ryder loves to sell herself to potential adopters.  She is outgoing, affectionate, playful, and a leaner. She raced at Sanford-Orlando and Sarasota, completing 52 races and finishing “in the money” 52% of the time. She has lovely golden eyes.

HASTA LUEGO (“LUEGO”)

Luego is a pretty little girl who is quiet and sensitive. In 9 races on the Birmingham track, she would start out fast but just couldn’t seem to keep up the pace all the way to the finish line. So, even though she won’t be 3 years old until March, she is already looking for her forever home.

MARCH WITH AAGA IN ATLANTA’S ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE!

Tina

COMING SOON!

WHAT: Atlanta’s 134th Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade

WHEN: SATURDAY, MARCH 12TH, – NO LATER THAN 11:30 A.M. (The parade will kick off at 12 noon.)

WHERE: Specialty check-in area: Corner of West Peachtree and 17th Street, Midtown Atlanta. (When you check in, parade volunteers will guide you to the Greyhounds.)

DETAILS:

St Pat's Parade_genericThis gala parade dating back to 1858 is fun for the whole family. It features over 200 units including clowns, floats, bands, dancers, drill teams, various rescue organizations and more. Adopt A Greyhound Atlanta has been a popular participant in this event for decades. It’s a great opportunity to meet and mingle with other Greyhound owners and show off your favorite hounds to the crowd. This year both AAGA and Southeastern Greyhound Adoption (SEGA) have requested that the two organizations be grouped together. That should make the Greyhound contingent even more impressive!

If you don’t have a Grey of your own but would like to participate in the parade, check with AAGA. We will no doubt have available hounds who will be happy to let you take them for a walk.

So, PLAN TO COME OUT AND MARCH WITH US! No experience required…and you’ll have a Greyt time!

C VILLE WIGGINS (“WIGGINS”)

Wiggins is a spectacular-looking tuxedo boy — shiny, shiny black coat with four white feet, a big broad white chest, and a white blaze up his face.  His racing career is a bit of a mystery. The Greyhound data site credits him with 105 races, while the Jacksonville site only lists 14, 12 of which were just schooling races.  He is a very friendly “leaner.”

GM’S MISS ASHLEY (“ASHLEY”)

This very cute petite girl with her unique flop-over ear was recently retired after achieving a 64% “in the money” rate in 140 races and earning 8.0 performance points. She is extremely affectionate and a great kisser.  Ashley also has the distinction of being the very first ex-racer to stretch out on the bare floor of AAGA’s Bishop Hall and assume the “roach” position within one hour of her arrival from the track.  Now that’s a quick transition to pet mode!

MAMAS PIANO MAN (“PIANO MAN”)

This young man — he won’t be 2 years old until February — has an outstanding pedigree.  His dad was an All American and set 2 of the fastest times ever on a 5/16th track; his grandpa holds a world record, won the Australian Cup, and has been touted as a “world super sire”. Yet, for some unforeseen reason, Piano Man never set food on a track. He is a very friendly and handsome boy with lots of white chest and lovely facial markings.

MACKER’S PUP (“DENALI”)

Denali has very interesting international lineage.  His daddy was an Irish super star, and his grandpappy  was Australian. But Denali didn’t seem to inherit those special genes. He ran 60 races and placed in just 29.  He’s been off the track and just languishing in his racing kennel since last February, one of those victims of “the big black male” syndrome  — always getting overlooked when it comes to adoption.  And that’s so unfair, as those of us who own black Greyhounds are well aware of what special loyal and affectionate companions they make. Denali is a happy, confident boy, and now that he is here in Atlanta, we want to see him quickly get that forever home he so rightfully deserves.

HYACINTH BUCKET (“HYACINTH”)

This young pup with a lovely dark face and a super curled tail just turned 2 in December.  She has more of an AKC show dog look — with her long legs, delicate lean body and very tiny waist — than an ex-racer. Since she was never able to even “place” in her couple dozen races, she was retired early.  She has a sweet, loving personality and excels at giving kisses.

COOL DOWN (“COOL DOWN”)

Although still just a pup — he just turned 2 in December — Cool Down is a calm, laid-back boy.  He’s a good-sized guy (racing weight 74#) whose athletic career consisted of just 3 schooling races.  He never made it to the “big time”. Apparently, the competitive edge was just not part of his make-up. But he’s a very personable fellow who will no doubt make a Greyt companion.

BRASKA SHIMMY (“SHIMMY”)

Shimmy raced to the full retirement age of 5 years and chalked up a noteworthy 14.0 performance points in the completion of 204 races. That sounds like the very successful career of a big boisterous male.  But Shimmy is a tiny girl (raced at 52 pounds) who, more often than not, got hit or bumped at the first turn, sometimes even knocked down, yet still managed to finish “in the money” more than 53% of the time.  Now, you would expect that she is probably a high-strung alpha diva.  Instead, she is the sweetest, best-behaved, house-trained little gal running around AAGA.  When she isn’t curled up napping in a Lazy Boy chair, she loves to cuddle up to everyone and deposit juicy kisses. Although she looks black, she is officially categorized as a dark brindle. You have to look real hard to see that she has dark red tipped fur on her shoulders.

EASI ALEX (“SPEEDMAN”)

Speedman was originally rehomed by AAGA back in August of 2012 as an adorable 20-month-old pup with just one race to his credit.  Then, this past December he was returned to us because his owner “travelled all the time” and his mother couldn’t keep caring for the dog. Speedman was thoroughly checked out by our vet, all his shots brought up to date, and a broken toe that was obviously impeding his walking amputated.  Now he is all healed and ready to campaign once again for a forever home. Speedman is just the sweetest, most delightful guy.

WW’S TEAR STRIP (“DEXTER”)

Dexter is a small fellow — racing weight of 68 pounds.  He’s a handsome guy with a thick, soft plush coat like bunny fur.  During his racing career, he ran over 150 races, even earning 2.0 performance points.  While basically a friendly, endearing fellow, Dexter is a confident Grey who likes to “push his boundaries”. However, he respects and quickly responds positively to proper correction by someone he sees will not let him get away with any “pushy” behavior.

Dog’s Description (more…)

SURPRISING (“SUR”)

There’s no denying that Sur is a large guy, racing at 82 pounds. He apparently used his extra size to advantage, ending up “in the money” in 59% of his 120+ races.  But now he is ready to fill some lucky family’s heart and home with his big confident deep red-coated self.

PJ GRAND (“GRAND”)

Grand is a handsome and well-behaved young gentleman, a good choice for someone looking for a smaller-sized male.  Just retired last month, his career consisted of 58 races with a sprinkling of wins.  He ran mainly at the Sanford-Orlando track.  His racing owner has graciously offered to communicate with any potential adopter and provide information on Grand’s background.

RADIO LOUD (“LOUD”)

Isn’t this little girl with the quirky name just adorable?  Loud boasts a strong pedigree, with a touch of Irish on her mom’s side. She finished up her career of just a couple dozen races at the Daytona Beach track this past October.  She is very friendly and inquisitive.
