BLACK OAK SMASH (“CHIMI”)

Recently, the Jacksonville track called AAGA to say there was an 8-year-old fawn male Greyhound in Americus, Georgia, that the owner no longer wanted, and could we help. Immediately, AAGA volunteers drove out, picked him up and brought him to Greys’Land. His name is Chimi, and he is a sweet, well-behaved, handsome boy who spent the last 6 years in a home where he was always well-maintained – annual check-ups and vaccines, dental cleaning, claws clipped, etc. – but, we feel, had little love or attention. While he is still a bit overwhelmed by the sudden change in his life and is now learning to walk on bare floors (He had always been kept in a room with wall-to-wall carpeting!), he gets along well with the other Greyhounds plus all the visitors to AAGA. He is such a gentle soul that deserves a second chance at a “forever” home, one that will give him the hugs and kisses he eagerly craves and so appreciates.

CANAAN DAPHNE (“DAPHNE”)

Daphne is a cute rambunctious, excitable girl — a “jumper upper” — who, in her 17 career races, would start out with a lot of enthusiasm only to get “bumped” out of contention by the first turn.  So, before she even reached her second birthday, she found herself “retired”. Daphne is very outgoing and eagerly greets all visitors to AAGA.

JS I AM SMOKED (“SMOKE”)

Smoke is a very confident, exuberant and friendly guy – a “jumper-upper”.  He is quite handsome and sleek, with beautiful eyes and that long narrow head and muzzle so attractive in a Greyhound.  He is very playful and loves to toss toys around. Over his career he was often “in the money” in his 173 races.

PAT C N SYNE (“ENSIGN”)

Heavily built (75#) and beautifully brindled, Ensign is like a big cuddly teddy bear. He was probably too laid back to be a super racer.  He completed just 18 races before he was retired. He is very sweet and huggable – likes to stand next to you, look up into your eyes, and be petted.

REBLE FRED (“FRED”)

This predominately white dapper-looking chap can boast of very prominent Greyhound racing bloodlines. In his 154-race career, he was “in the money” 50% of the time and earned 6.0 Performance Points. A good-sized boy (74#), he is such a nice friendly fellow – so well-behaved. He likes to sniff at your face and hair.

NATASHA (Italian Greyhound)

Natasha is an adorable 8 pound, 10-month-old Italian Greyhound who recently came to AAGA when her owner in assisted living could no longer care for her.  Natasha is “cute as a button” – very outgoing and playful. She loves to cuddle and insists on sleeping at night on a human chest. As endearing as she is, “Iggies” come with their own set of challenges and should only be considered by persons familiar with the breed.

PETES PLACE (“PETEY”)

This is a super spirited gal who is prone to jumping up on everyone she meets. This enthusiasm has probably identified her throughout her professional career of nearly 200 races. Petey is very confident, personable and lovable.

JIM PALMER (“JIM”)

Jim is a good-looking guy who, regardless of his relatively small size (65#), had an active 108-race career at the Naples, Palm Beach, and Jacksonville tracks. Despite his quiet demeanor, he is friendly and likes attention.  He is gradually learning to cope with “shiny” floors.

CANAAN MIMOSA (“MIMOSA”)

Mimosa recently arrived at AAGA to reunite with her twin sister, Canaan Daphne, already an adoptable here.  The only way to tell the two of them apart is by the names on their collars and the fact that Mimosa is about one inch taller.  Just like her sister, she is cute and outgoing, but perhaps not quite as rambunctious. In her 10 career races, she would do well until mid-track and then lose steam. So, also like her sister, she finds herself “retired” at a young age. Mimosa is very personable and enjoys meeting all the visitors to AAGA..

SABER DAFNEY (“DAFNEY”)

Dafney is a bouncy, outgoing young lady who was retired from racing at an early age following an injury.  Now back 100% to good health, she is looking for her forever home.  With noticeable gold eyes and a bunny-soft coat, she’s a lovely brindle pup who turns on her charm at every opportunity.

WW HEADOVERHEELS (“ELLIE”)

Hooray!  12-year-old Ellie has a new forever home! When she first came to AAGA back in 2012, she was not quite 5 years old. We described her as a sweet black girl with a silver face and pretty eyes.  She was adopted within a week and has lived happily in a loving home for the past 7 years.  Recently, however, she was returned to us when her “mom” had to go into assisted living and could no longer care for her. Poor Ellie was obviously very sad and downhearted over this change in her life.  As it happened, an AAGA adopter met her when they boarded their 12-year-old female with us and ended up taking Ellie home with them when they picked up their girl. Happily, Ellie’s new family reports that she is adjusting well. She even gets excited and does “zoomies” when they come with leashes to take the two old girls out for a walk.

ALL ABOUT DOEBOY(“DOEBOY”)

This is the first hound to ever come to AAGA with 11 Performance Points and 33 races accumulated before turning  2 years old, the age when most racers are just beginning their careers. Doeboy was certainly on his way to stardom when he suddenly “pulled up”and didn’t finish his last race. (Must have been heartbreaking for his trainer!) But why?  An injury of some sort? If so, it must have been minor, because we can’t find any evidence of one!  Despite a racing weight of just 69 pounds, he is a strapping, stunning, muscular specimen.  Predominately white, Doeboy has a perfectly marked black mask over his eyes and ears and a very identifiable large black “heart” (butterfly?) across his butt. He has an unusual bark that has been described as “oboe-sounding”. And, yes, he is happy and outgoing.

WW PLASKA (” PLASKA”)

There is no getting around that Plaska is still a puppy.  She hasn’t even finished moulting her baby fur! Although she never raced professionally – couldn’t even make the grade in her schooling classes — she is very playful and loves to entice any nearby human or animal into a game of “chase me”.

TEMPO CINCH (“CINCH”)

Outgoing, confident and personable, this big (78#) powerful  boy accumulated 13 Performance Points in his 146 races, 60% of which were “in the money”. Yet he is as gentle and well-mannered as he is sleek and handsome.

OSHKOSH JESS (“JESS”)

Known at both the track and AAGA as “the girl with the cutest ears”, Jess first came to us in early 2018 as a perky sweet young girl who was just not cut out to be a racer. In her 17 career races she put forth very little effort, and, since you can’t make a Greyhound run who really isn’t all that interested in running, she was retired early.   Now, after having been in a home for the last 1½ years, Jess was recently returned to AAGA by her adopters who claimed that their work schedules did not leave them enough time for her. So, still a sweet and friendly girl, Jess is now looking for her second chance at a forever home.

LEE GENNARO (“G”)

Known as “G”, this moderately-sized young boy (69 pounds) can boast of a lot of big names in his pedigree.  When he raced, he was always determined to try for the rail, and as a result would frequently get hit, bumped, and collided with. Because of this racing trait that he wouldn’t change, it was decided to retire him at a young age before he became injured. “G” is a bit shy with strangers but warms up quickly when people become known to him.

TR’S TUSCALOOSA (“TUSCALOOSA”)

This pretty young girl was just not in a mood to have her picture taken when she arrived.  Although still a bit cautious about shiny floors, she nevertheless is a very playful and endearing pup who immediately attracts the attention of every visitor to AAGA.

GS VICTOR (“VICTOR”)

Victor first came to AAGA in 2012 as a 2¾ year-old retired racer. A handsome happy enthusiastic fellow, he was quickly adopted.  Now, 7 years later, just returned to us by his owner due to her health issues, we find Victor to have the same friendly and outgoing personality he originally left AAGA with. Victor will be 10 years old in September. Could you be the one to present this deserving well-behaved senior with a great birthday gift – a second chance at a forever home?
